4 Year Opiate Addiction
It was by the grace of God that I found out about the program and it gave me my life back. When my mom and I called to ask about the program we were greeted by a wonderful nurse who was so helpful and understanding. The thought of flying to Detroit from Vancouver, B.C. Canada seemed like such a tedious and hard venture but once the flight was booked and the treatment scheduled I was so relieved that finally there might be an answer to my years of struggle to get over my addiction to opiates. I tried outpatient counseling and tried to detox at home with medications but the nasty addiction just would not let go.
Our experience from the time we arrived in Detroit to the time we left was an experience that I will never forget. We were greeted by Tim who ran the shuttle service and took us to the hotel. He was a delightful and kind man. We had a few hours and then we were off to the office where the intake and preop testing began. We were greeted by a wonderful young lady at the desk and everyone in the office was so caring and loving that it brought tears to my eyes.
Finally I could raise my head and not feel ashamed as these people understood. Upon leaving that day and being told that I passed the tests and they would proceed with the procedure the next morning I burst into tears and so did the other staff along with my mother. It was like a 1,000 monkeys just lifted off my back just to know that it would soon be over. I met many others in the same situation and their family members that day and we all formed a strong bond while in the Hotel. It was reassuring to know that opiate addiction is a factor in all walks of life and that I was not alone. That first night my withdrawal began as I had not taken opiates for 24 hours.
My mother was with me for support but the medical staff at the hotel were there whenever I needed something or someone. It took a phone call and they were there within 5 minutes. Each one of the staff members have a special gift of understanding and caring without judgement. I could hold my head up even in my situation. Everyone made me as comfortable as possible knowing that withdrawal is hell. The next morning I was picked up at the hotel and off to the operatory for my procedure. I was release that evening back to the hotel and the staff came every four hours or when I needed them.
The days passed quickly and on the fourth day I was ready to make my journey home. We said our goodbyes to the other people who had become a support and friends. I remember sitting on the bench outside the hotel with my mother waiting for the shuttle to arrive to take us to the airport. Both of us felt a “homesick feeling” having to leave the wonderful people that made this possible and gave me back my life. It has been almost a month now and I have no desire for opiates nor will I ever travel that road again. I am in a harsh exercise program daily and determined to be well and see the wonders of life again without drugs. This program is a miracle and I would strongly suggest that any one that needs help with opiate addiction phone the number and take the first step to be well and getting your life back.
The cost of the program is so minute compared to what I wasted and spent on five years of opiate use so I recommend this to everyone that is struggling with opiate addiction – you cannot do it alone and I tried it all and failed until I found this miracle clinic. Thank you to all the staff in the office and the clinic for their wonderful support and care. I will be in touch from time to time so that you know I am doing well.
